Artificial intelligence and music applications workshop

Artificial Intelligence and Music Applications

From analysis and mastering tools to generative and interactive AI

Workshop overview

A path from isolated functions to interactive musical systems

Three hours to understand what changes when AI stops being a single button and becomes part of a musical process. The workshop begins with analysis, separation, restoration and mastering, then moves through generative music and concludes with systems that exchange MIDI, OSC and API data with DAWs, Max/MSP, TouchDesigner and hardware.

Programme

Tools, generation and interaction

Live demonstrations, A/B listening, guided mini-workflows and critical discussion connect individual services to a supervised creative ecosystem.

Finding your bearings

A practical taxonomy: what analyses, transforms, generates and acts on a musical system.

Analysis, cleanup and stems

Source separation, noise and reverberation reduction, tempo, key and chord detection with comparative listening.

Assisted mixing and mastering

Master assistants, reference matching, automated services, loudness-matched comparison and the responsibility of human critical listening.

Generative AI: from idea to material

Music prompts, audio input, structure, variation, continuity and stems, with a focus on turning output into editable material.

Interactive generation and performance

Real-time control of tempo, key, density and timbre through MIDI, audio, Web MIDI and external controllers.

Applications, devices and closing

Human-in-the-loop architectures connecting AI to Ableton Live, Max for Live, Max/MSP, TouchDesigner and hardware, followed by a design checklist.

Prerequisites

Who can take part

  • Musicians, producers, sound designers, lecturers, students and audiovisual artists.
  • Programming is not required.
  • Basic familiarity with music production or a DAW is useful.
Required materials

Recommended preparation

  • A computer with a stable internet connection.
  • Headphones and a DAW of choice.
  • An optional short original audio file for testing.
  • Some demonstrated services may require accounts or paid plans; no purchase is required to follow the workshop.
Outcomes

A critical map and an integration method

Back to workshops ->
  • A map of the main families of music-AI tools.
  • A method for comparing results, artefacts and workflow costs.
  • A procedure for moving from prompts or source audio to editable stems.
  • An integration model connecting AI, DAWs and real-time media.
  • Criteria for licensing, consent, attribution and provenance.
  • A human-supervised workflow for musical decisions.
